Course Start Dates
Sunday 29th October 2017
Sunday 26th November 2017
Sunday 28th January 2018
An introductory course, suitable for complete beginners or those who are wanting to refresh their skills. The sessions will introduce students to a number of different clays, their suitability for different techniques, firing ranges and workability. Students will complete projects in slab building, coiling and throwing and will also have the opportunity to explore surface decoration using coloured slips. This is a very informative course with a practical base which is also fun. Small groups and two tutors ensures students get the help and attention they need to be able to successfully complete the projects. Our students have been amazed by the amount they have covered and been able to achieve in just a few hours of practice. Places are limited so early booking is recommended. Feedback on this course is excellent and many students return to continue working on their own projects once they have mastered the basics.
Various course dates and times throughout the year.

My son and I did this course. It was a wonderful introduction that also allowed us to develop our own style and thoughts within the projects Gerry set us. Gerry is a great teacher and lovely person to spend time with, she listened to our ideas and helped us make them happen. I could not recommend Fired Thoughts more highly.... We both want to do more and more with them in the future.
My daughter and a attended this course last Sunday and had a great time. Both Geri and Sue were informative and very patient! We both managed to turn out pretty good looking pots on the wheel, albeit with a little help, we also made a pinch pot, a pot from coiling and a small box - you pack a lot into the day!
We will be back.
Jasmin and I had a great time exploring various clays and techniques. Some of which rung a bell from school many years ago, some that were enlightening.
It was great to have a day where you could work on different types of clay and methods of construction as it allowed my wife and I to see where we both wanted to follow up on the specific types of creation.
I am certain we'll be back so we can both focus on our own preferred areas.
Spent today with Geri and Sue, and cannot recommend it highly enough. Fantastic tutors who take time with everyone, ensuring you come away with fantastic creations. Atmosphere is relaxed and fun, very informative. I have never had any experience and was still able to throw a pot and make several other pieces with different techniques. The time flew and was hugely enjoyable.
My mum and I did this course a couple of months ago and I've been meaning to post a review since as we loved it. I've done a little bit of pottery before but learned so many new things on this course - about different types of clay and different techniques. I really enjoyed all the things we tried. I thought I would have enjoyed throwing on the wheel the most (which is what i've done before) but I really loved making a big fruit bowl sized pinch pot. The day was structured around trying different techniques, but with room for our own creativity too. Really good for anyone who wants to try different things and see what suits them.
The teachers were great. Answered our many questions and were a good laugh. I actually had terrible flu at the time and was so diverted by what we were doing and the good humour it was done with that I forgot for most of the day!
We will definitely be coming back for another course.
My partner and I were given vouchers for this course as a Christmas present. We would never have thought of doing anything like this. It was a full day and we really learnt a lot about different clays and their uses. We were shown four alternative ways of using clays and Geri and Sue really knew intuitively which methods would suit us best. It was a great day out and we also had plenty of laughs too, mainly at ourselves, with our successes and failures. Geri and Sue were very encouraging in our efforts and helped us greatly to get the best out of any talents we had. I can thoroughly recommend this day out as a great experience and a chance to try your hand at a new craft.
I took part in this day course with my son, the only previous experience I had with clay was when I was at school many many years ago. I was really impressed with what I managed to achieve throughout the day. The day was structured allowing us to try various methods, each method was not only achievable but just hard enough to allow us to challenge our abilities. Our tutors Sue and Gerry who are both highley skilled in their art made the day fun and informative, both of them showing oodles of patience and a helping hand for us to achieve our best potential. Both myself and my son really enjoyed the day and want to take part in another. Both of us would recommend this course... I all ready have.... you will not be disapointed.
