About the Course

I am an award-winning classically trained figurative sculptor working from an impressively lit 650 sq ft private studio at Grandey’s Place. This craft incubator was founded in 2019 to help sustain the UK’s Heritage Crafts.
I completed a BA (Hons) History of Art at The Courtauld and trained in figurative sculpture at The Florence Academy of Art where I was awarded the inaugural “Graduate in Residence” fourth year prize for sculpture. In 2019, I was awarded the Tiranti Prize for best exhibit by a sculptor under 30 at The Society of Portrait Sculptors’ Exhibition.
I sculpt by “drawing in space” - a methodology conceived by the founder and former director of The Florence Academy of Art’s sculpture programme. It builds on constructive and impressionistic approaches to academic training so that one can develop an anatomically sound sculpture in the round. Once a sculptor has mastered the techniques of “drawing in space”, the bony landmarks visible on a model can be used to sculpt a framework in which the sculpture can be made in parts. This allows one to create pose that goes beyond the realms of possibility for a human body.

N.B. This course is about learning not about a "take-home" product. Clay is an impermanent medium. You are of course welcome to purchase the armature of your gesture study if you wish to continue working on it at home or commission a mould to be made if you would like to cast it independently.
Course dates are flexible; please get in touch for the next available date.
