If you like bath time creativity, you will most likely already know about the latest craze for ‘Soap Cosies’. I like them because I combine my life-long love of creative textiles with my latest passion for soap making, transforming a bar of soap into a hand crafted thing of beauty. Whilst it may sound strange to cover your soaps with woollen fibres, you will find that your soap lasts longer. This workshop is suitable for anyone with a passion for creating bath time beauties and may be of interest to those of you who have already completed the soap making workshop, as you may have artisan soaps that you would like to ‘dress’. In this workshop you will:
•Discuss the characteristic features of fibres most suited to felt making;
•Differentiate between wet felting and needle felting;
•Examine the equipment used for wet felting and needle felting;
•Prepare soaps for wet felting correctly;
•Layer fibres correctly to achieve optimum matting;
•Experiment with coloured fibres and yarns to embellish your felted soaps;
•Experiment with needle felting techniques to embellish your felted soaps;
•Follow relevant Health and Safety procedures;
•Experiment with creative ideas for packaging and gift wrapping
Workshop Tutors: Gill Jones and Kate Jones
