I really enjoyed this course. Melanie's instructions were really clear and even though it was online it was fun working alongside the other participants. The kit had everything needed to make the picture, with plemty left over for another one. Unwrapping the felt picture I had created was very satisfying - quite magical how the wisps of wool laid down on the bubble-wrap turn into a piece of art. It was great to be able to join this from my kitchen and I hope Melanie will continue to run these online even when it's possible to have face to face courses again.
Lovely 3 hours with a great instructor who was patient and inspiring
The kit that Melanie provided was excellent. Lots of lovely yarns, very well collated to allow lots of scope/flexibility and enough for 2 pictures. Beautifully presented too and kind to the environment.
The course was excellent. Very friendly, the right pace and really good, clear instructions. The instruction booklet is also very good so I feel confident that I will be able to do more on my own. Melanie has lots of good advice about embellishing, stitching/embroidery etc as well, so I am really looking forward to finishing this project off.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course and recommend it wholeheartedly.
A gift for my birthday, and what a fabulous experience it was. Melanie sent through a super kit full or beautiful wool for the session and all the bits you would need. A clear booklet with pictures to keep and help to remind you of the step by step process. Melanie was friendly, encouraging and answered the questions I had. The end results was quite special and I really cant wait to try this again on my own.
A super course that has been well thought out and is very easy to follow. The three hours went so quickly, but not feeling rushed at all. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in giving something new a go. Thank you Melanie.
Response from Crafts in the Valley:Thank you for your great review. It was a lovely spending the afternoon online with you, being creative and chatting!
A very enjoyable and informative course. Whilst I had done some wet felting before I found plenty to enjoy and learn and Melanie explained clearly how to needle felt.
Response from Crafts in the Valley:Thanks for attending the online workshop and leaving a review! I'm looking forward to seeing your finished textile work. Please send me a photo.
Great workshop and we were made very welcome.
Lots of materials / books to inspire you. A great way to escape and relax! Highly recommend!
We will definitely be returning for another workshop.
The wet felting/free motion embroidery course was fabulous. There were loads of sources of inspiration and Melanie was a great teacher....informative, helpful and relaxed. We loved it. We’ll be back.
Great felting workshop with free form embroidery. It was a brilliant day I felt I had accomplished loads . Melanie was a fantastic teacher sharing her knowledge and experience. She also plied us with tea/coffee and cake all day . Well worth the money .
This was my first felting course and the day was absolutely brilliant. Melanie was a fantastic teacher and created a warm and friendly atmosphere for everyone, including supplying us with tea, coffee and treats throughout the day. Everyone in the group produced an amazing piece of art using the skills Melanie introduced, and taking advantage of the huge range of good quality materials and equipment available in the workshop. Don't worry if you don't think you're particularly artistic - you are guaranteed to produce something you are proud of on this lovely relaxing course. I'm definitely inspired to continue felting!
This was the second felting course I attended, this one in Cragg Vale, the first in Haworth. The venue is superb, in a beautiful part of Yorkshire.
Melanie is an amazing tutor. She makes you feel at ease and her attention to detail post lockdown to all aspects of keeping safe is commendable.
Melanie has a tremendous knowledge of her subject and offers the right amount of support as she is very approachable.
She has all the materials including books/pictures for ideas if necessary.
I had a relaxing day and felt pleased with my picture which needs to be finished as I write. I am proud to say that I wish to frame my first picture.
I recommend this course if you wish to have a go at a new hobby or return for increased learning and development.
I did the felting course, which covers wet and needle felting along with using machine embroidery as embellishment. Lovely course, very clear instructions and lots of help. Books and pictures were provided for inspiration or we were free to use our own from home. This is a really enjoyable and satisfying set of techniques to learn. Best of all, you go home with a piece of finished work using them. The venue was Cobbles and Clay in Haworth and a delicious lunch was provided. Looking forward to my next course already.
Two fabulous days learning all about felting in Haworth. Melanie and Linda were extremely knowledge and talented too, it was inspiring to see some of their finished pieces. They were encouraging and patient. The two days felt really relaxed and the group was lovely. Who knew felting could be so therapeutic! Thank you very much
I have just enjoyed a wonderful weekend of felting with informal, extremely talented tuition at a fabulous venue with great food. It was great meeting other ladies all with different ideas and all producing something really special in a friendly social atmosphere. A highly recommend experience.
Wonderful two days felting free machine embroidering needle felting and even hand spinning ... amazing number of skills covered with lots of knowledge and expertise shared by two experts and lovely people.... a great experience to be in a relaxed environment in a beautiful setting in Howarth with like minded crafters ... the food drinks and ambiance at Cobbles and Clay the venue was buzzing and added an extra dimension to the two days - great value for money, my own piece of art work and lots of inspiration ... highly recommended and Thankyou Melanie Linda and all my fellow crafters for the day 🥰🥰🥰🐑🐑🐑
What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday ! Melanie and Linda were just brilliant from the very moment I arrived (a little too early in my over enthusiasm) to the minute I left. THANK YOU THANK YOU for your support, instruction and expert guidance. Would love to do it all over again. Thank you for being so generous with your wools. I loved the food too. Cobbles and Clay is such a lovely sanctuary.
What a fabulous creative inspirational day - chance to learn a whole variety of techniques with a luscious choice of wools, great support and knowledge. Great food also. Highly recommend.
Had a lovely day felting. Tuition was first class, Mel is inspiring and helpful and very very good at what she does. I was amazed that I came home with a lovely piece of felted art. Highly recommended.
Had a fabulous day, very relaxed, great tutition and patience by Melanie Louise and Linda. Very knowledgeable ad friendly, this one day course has totally inspired me to take this art form up!
Brilliant day. Learnt so much. Thank you
Our Weekend of Wool at Cobbles and Clay in Haworth was absolutely fantastic! We all got a very warm welcome from Mel, Linda and the cafe staff. The tuition was first class and covered all abilities. Mel and Linda were so helpful, patient and full of wonderful ideas and the pictures we all created were amazing.
The food (especially the cake!) provided by Cobbles and Clay was delicious too! I left feeling inspired to practise some of the ideas at home and I am really looking forward to joining Crafts in the Valley for another felting workshop soon.
Just attended this wonderful workshop and can highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in learning more about felting. I was amazed how much we covered in one day ... including a yummy lunch ! Melanie Louise is an organised and thoughtful teacher who seemed to guide everyone through their different projects. I came away feeling much more confident in my ability and with a lovely piece of art I’m going to treasure. Todmorden is also a gem and well worth a visit with lots of arty shops and a relaxed vibe. Loved the course and will be doing more workshops with crafts in the valley 😊
Learning to felt has been on my to do list for a long time and I couldn't have picked a better course. Melanie is a natural teacher and structured the day perfectly. The teaching process flowed seamlessly, stimulating our own creativity and we all produced a beautiful piece of work.
The venue is lovely and the refreshments and lunch were delicious.
I would recommend this course to anyone and it would certainly make an alternative group activity for an adult birthday party.
A Brilliant day and thoroughly enjoyed meeting Mel and the other crafty ladies on this felting workshop. As a total beginner due to the excellent and patient tuition was guided through the whole process and came away with a lovely felted picture. A five star day.
I have just completed a felting and free machine embroidery class with Melanie.
What a great day! I would wholeheartedly recommend the class. It was a lovely atmosphere and I have a new hobby I am very keen to pursue.
Having never done a craft course or worked with felt before i did a day course with crafts in the Valley rather hesitantly. Melanie put me completely at ease and i overcame any shyness or self doubts really quickly. Mel is a fantastic, warm, engaging and friendly teacher. I felt completely included and at ease with the other women in the group. I enjoyed felting and found myself inspired and absorbed in the work. I am really proud of the piece i made and got a lot out of the whole day. I felt looked after and nurtured, I learnt a lot, met nice people, ate good food and laughed. My felted picture is now in a frame at home and i am happy to think i made it :) I wouldn't hesitate to go on another course and would completely recommend to anyone considering trying it.
I had a really enjoyable day and learned how to wet and dry felt and freehand sew. Melanie was very informative and was able to help everyone individually, where needed. There was also very tasty food and drink provided at the cafe.
Highly recommend. . . What a brilliant day. Good tuition, good resources, good company and good food!!
A satisfying piece of feltwork to take home ... feeling inspired to do more!
I really enjoyed this workshop. Mel explained everything clearly and took the time to speak to all the participants offering advice and suggestions.
There were drinks and pastries/biscuits accessible at all times and the lunch at a local cafe was very pleasant, followed by afternoon snack of chocolate cake with fresh strawberries. Lovely.
Throughout the day Mel made sure that we were all happy with her instructions, and was on hand to make sure we understood what we were doing, and why. We all came away proudly clutching our own pieces of art.
Melanie hosted an excellent workshop on making a felt picture, everyone came away with a real sense of achievement at having learnt something completely new. The refreshments were very welcome, the company was good and Melanie's tuition was superb - a lovely way to spend a day!
I can't recommend Melanie's workshops onboard the lovely Crafty Snail narrowboat highly enough! I have taken her workshops in both felting (with a friend) and mosaics (with my husband) and have all thoroughly enjoyed them, coming home at the end of each day with pieces of art we were proud to put up on the wall despite being complete beginners. Melanie herself is a fantastic teacher and a pleasure to spend time with and the workshops are incredibly good value, especially when you consider the lovely lunch, drinks and snacks included. Treat yourself or someone you love to a relaxing crafty day in beautiful, unique surroundings now!
Having attended 2 felt crafty days, I would highly recommend Melanie's workshops. I was a complete beginner and came home with 2 felt pictures, having been guided carefully at each stage of creating the natural world scenes from scratch. It was great to have a very small group on board the Crafty Snail, with plenty of room to work despite the narrow space, and a lovely choice of materials to choose from. The supply of warm drinks and goodies to nibble on helped the concentration, whilst the woodburning stove kept us cosy. We enjoyed a delicious meal at the Olive Branch during lunchtime before returning to find our pictures ready for the next stage of creation. I found both occasions full of inspiration and they built my confidence in art and craft.
