This exciting course aims to release your creativity to make your own pieces of felted artwork using a variety of hand dyed luxury fibres and textures. You will learn how to design at least one piece of unique artwork. I am an experienced textile artist and will have many examples of my felted and stitched artwork to inspire you. We will use a wide variety of hand dyed (by me) silks and texture fibres to make our felted art and will cover all the basics of the traditional method of wet felting techniques.
In the morning we will look at composition and design, colour theory and textures, and start making your first felt landscape or picture of your choice. In the afternoon we will make another piece, this time exploring textures and other fibres to include in your work. You will have time to make more than one piece of artwork, using different techniques.
Felt history and interesting information about felting will be shared throughout the day, and discussion on other techniques and styles of work will be encouraged. Other types of feltmaking workshops that can be offered include 3D vessels, cobweb, nuno and cutwork.
We will also explore what can be done to enhance felt work after it is made; stitching, adding texture, needle felting and more.
I aim to enthuse my students to explore and develop their own creativity so they feel empowered to work with textiles in their own unique way.
