We look forward to welcoming you at Hare Hill Barn to take part in this fabulous creative fabric embroidery and applique day. You will use personal memory photos on fabric, combined with layers of other fabrics to create a stunning celebratory fabric picture approximately A4 in size. You could create a piece for a special birthday or anniversary or just create a piece which is a celebration of family history of your family today.
Working on a background of calico and wadding, you will learn to age fabrics and learn applique techniques using the sewing machine (if you wish) combined with hand stitching. Sue will show you how to free machine names and special family dates to use in your design. Using your own creative ideas you can be experimental with techniques and embellish the work with beads, buttons, ribbons etc to create a beautiful family celebration piece to take home with you.
This course is suitable for those who have some basic knowledge of hand sewing.

Hare Hill Barn is big enough for 6 people to remain at a 2m distance at their own table, although if you are arriving with a friend you may sit together. Sanitizer will be available at each station, and at key points in the building. We ask you to bring a mask and to follow instructions regarding safeguarding. Your refreshments and lunch will be served at your table to avoid unnecessary contact with other members of the group.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Please bring with you: Spectacles if needed; pencil, any special scraps of fabric, buttons, beads etc; your personal sewing kit and fabric/embroidery scissors if you wish. Sewing machine that allows you to do free machining if you have one and you wish to bring this with you. Sue will also have fabric, beads, buttons, embroidery thread for you to use. Wadding and calico will be provided.
Before the course you will need to email Sue a selection of small family photos of people and/or places and/or a few lines or words from a special poem or family motto, to fit onto an A4 sheet for her to print onto fabric for you ready for the course. If you could lay these out in an A4 document to fill the sheet and attach this to your email this would be great. Leave a bit of space around each picture to allow for cutting out or creating a frayed edge on the fabric. (Pictures can be rotated to fill the sheet as it doesn’t matter which way up they are as they will be cut out to use).
Refreshments including home cooked cakes will be provided throughout the day, and lunch cooked in our farmhouse kitchen will give you the opportunity to discuss your projects as they progress!
We do not offer accommodation but there are several B&Bs locally, or The Heft in High Newton (just 1.5 miles away). Alternatively we are within just a few miles of Cartmel (home to Sticky Toffee Pudding), Grange over Sands or Windermere where there are a wide variety of places to stay. Why don't you make a holiday of your trip to Hare Hill Barn?
