Course Start DatesSaturday 2nd May 2020
About the Course
This 2 day course will explore the exciting, mark-making properties of collagraph printing.
Kim Major-George, an experienced printmaker, has taken collagraph, with it’s raw, textured finishes along many diverse journeys.
During the first part of this fast moving print workshop, students will experience cutting, peeling, layering, melting and adhering simple materials to create fascinating textured printing plates. On the second day students will experience loading intaglio inks with a variety of tools, burnishing back and pulling through a traditional press to reveal a beautiful finished images - all produced on quality 300 gram printing paper.
Both abstract and representational images work extremely well. This workshop is suitable for all abilities including beginners; no previous art or printing experience is needed.
Students can expect to produce several printed images, on good quality 300 grm printing paper, no bigger than A4 size.
What to bring:
Optional: Inspirational images - if thinking of pictorial images keep them bold an simple; black and white photocopies from books, magazines, children illustrations and naive art all work well. Avoid small people or animals. Kim will also bring a selection of design books to give you ideas. It is better to come along with an idea of the type of image you would like to create rather than a fixed plan, as working on your ideas will all be part of the process.
All other tools and materials will be provided. There will be an additional £10 materials fee payable in cash to the tutor at the start of the course, to cover these.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Tea, Coffee, biscuits and cold refreshments will be available throughout the day. Lunch is not provided although The Phoenix Kitchen, just next door, provides an array of meals, light lunches and snacks. Alternatively, there is a fridge and microwave in the studio kitchen for you to use if you would prefer to bring your own lunch.
I can’t recommend a workshop with Kim more highly. I was completely new to collagraph printing, but now have done four workshops. Kim is an inspiration and will talk you through examples of her work which just makes your jaw drop. She’s on hand to guide you through the process with plenty of support and practical advice.
