Exploring Fabric Dyeing and Screen Printing

Inspiring venue

Students will discover the traditional textile processes of fabric dying using a resist technique called shibori. We will experiment with different ways of folding, clamping, binding and stitching fabric, dyeing the samples using a cold-water dye.

During the course, you will be introduced to screen printing and can explore the grounds of Dillington to find inspiration for your paper stencil that will be used to screen print on to a tote bag and the dyed samples.

Includes materials.

Course runs from Wednesday to Friday morning.

Tutor Information
Zara Shepherd, I grew up in Weston-super-Mare where my creative Mum inspired me to try a variety of crafts, this passion for the arts continued through my education choosing to study a foundation diploma in art and design at Weston College, moving on to a BA (HONS) in textile design at Winchester school of Art. After graduating with a 2.1 in 2006 I worked as a technical instructor in printed textiles at Loughborough University.
During my time at Loughborough University I achieved an "Associate Fellowship" in teaching at higher education. Having spent 10 years working at the university I made the decision to follow my dream and create a screen print studio. I relocated to my home town of Weston-Super-Mare and set up the studio to design and print my own unique gift range and to run creative workshops to fulfil my passion for teaching others this wonderful craft.
