About the Course
4 day Masterclass with Claire Hall.
This course, developed in partnership between Claire Hall and Glassification has been one of the most successful ever held here at Glassification. Feedback from course members has included comments such as “truly inspiring, I now understand how to create stunning landscapes!” .. “I feel like I can really call myself an artist now”.. “Thank you for facilitating a great course, I had an amazing time” and much much more….
As we grow as glass makers, many of us reach where we may be feeling a bit stuck in a rut. Claire’s course has been designed for those of us who have gained skills and experience with kiln formed glass and want to step up to making gallery quality pieces, but perhaps lack the confidence and direction.
With many of us lacking an art education background, (or it was so long ago, if feels lost in the mists of time!) the art glass world may feel a little intimidating. This course has been designed to fill in some gaps in our skill set, and is less of a glass making course (although technique and firing schedules will be covered) and more an art course, using glass as our medium. However, don’t let the word “art” frighten you! As a maker, you are already creative! Claire’s expert patience and teaching skills will give you the confidence to explore your “Inner Artist” in a supportive and encouraging environment!
Over the four days Claire will be teaching us how to “look”, see shape and form, how to sketch using pencils and watercolours, colour theory, composition and how to translate these skills into landscapes in glass . We will be working from photographs as well as going out to sketch in the natural environment surrounding the studio here in the heart of Somerset.
You will be creating test pieces using sheet glass, frits and powders, building layer upon layer and culminating in a final piece of work, which you will also cold work to a gallery finish.
This is a four day in depth journey, encompassing many different techniques helping you to think and work like an artist. You will be given the opportunity to evaluate your final piece, cold working and re-working to achieve a professional gallery quality piece of art.
