Description

Pattern is expressive and bold. Printed pattern can be integrated with prints on paper and also for fabric designs. It may also have further applications in homemade collage papers, cards, dressmaking and much more.

In this two-day (consecutive) workshop we will look at approaches in designing striking and energetic repeat patterns. We will be carving these designs onto traditional lino before having fun with some trial printing.

We will look at single colour and multiple colours within the design, also covering both technical repeat, tessellation and using small stamps. Using the lino as our formal print plate, we will expand and look at how we can make pattern stamps from everyday materials and make repeat pattern rollers.

Applications of the prints will be on paper and fabric, and although we will not be working with specific imagery, we will cover how repeat pattern may be integrated within artwork. Please be prepared to work with oil-based inks. We will not be using any solvents in the workshop.
