This is a one-day course experimenting with gel plate printing. On the course, you’ll get an introduction to gel plate printing, learn about the different types of plates (including the artist’s recipe to make your own inexpensive vegan version), what other materials you’ll need and have fun making some prints!
There will be demonstrations of a few approaches and then the freedom to have a play with your own ideas. The artist will be on hand to explain layering and how to register them, using stencils, ghost prints, and mark making. Please bring a folder or box to safely transport your prints home where you can either frame them as finished pieces, continue to work on with other materials or use as collage material.
The course takes place in the new art studio at the Secret Garden Café situated through Gallery 6, Stodman Street. The course starts at 10 am and finishes at 4 pm with a one-hour break for lunch (included) and is appropriate for all abilities.
Printmaker artist Susannah Sendall runs this course; she trained as an illustrator in Cambridge and is now studying for her master’s degree in multidisciplinary printmaking. Susannah uses gel plates to experiment at home or in studios without access to printing presses and loves the medium for loosening up her work, playing with colour combinations, mark making, collage and testing out ideas quickly.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
