About the Course
During this extended 1-day session you will learn the craft of glass etching with a chemical cream, then use the technique to decorate your own stunning glass and metal lantern (I also offer a 3-hr session, please see my other listings on craftcourses.com).
I will begin the session by introducing a range of simple techniques to create and apply your own stencil design, then demonstrate the use of glass etching cream. This process is very accessible for all skill levels; I will provide lots of stickers for those less confident in their artistic ability, whilst others may choose to cut their own intricate designs. You will be provided with a mirror to experiment with, after which you will move on to your lantern (a beauty at 51cm tall x 15cm wide, with silver-coloured metalwork). There will be plenty of tea and cake, plus a delicious lunch... and at the end of the day you will take home a crib-sheet with hints and tips for continuing glass etching at home.
Once you know the basics this is a technique that can be further explored at home. Chemical etching creates a permanent opaque surface, ideal for decorating functional items as they may be washed and heated to the manufacturers’ original specifications. Etching cream is a particularly great way to transform plain household items, or why not visit your local charity shop and collect some glass objects with the potential to transform... glassware from the recycling bin may also be given a new lease of life. Create beautiful gifts, seasonal decorations, and fun yet functional household items.
Lunch, tea, coffee, herbal teas and cake will be provided to keep your creativity going!
