Essential Soft furnishings – Accredited course
This practical and hands on course has been developed by the AMUSF to deliver the skills and knowledge necessary for participants wishing to enter a career in soft furnishings, or to continue their learning with recognition by accreditation. Suitable for beginners with an interest in the field or those with some background in soft furnishing, textiles or upholstery, this course provides an invaluable pathway into soft furnishings.
The course runs over one academic year with local school holidays observed, including half terms. Classes will run from 10.00 – 17.00 on a Friday, beginning the 6th October through to the 20th July.
During the course students will cover a number of practical assignments building a portfolio of samples and notes that will form part of the course work required. Current legislation for soft furnishings relating to products will be taught and students will also be given instruction on business set up. By the end of the course students will have successfully produced the following large scale projects:
• A pair of full length interlined curtains with a hand stitched heading
• A roman blind
• A decorative scatter cushion
• A decorative bolster cushion
• A piped box cushion
The work will be assessed by an independent external verifier from the AMUSF.
The cost of the course is £2800.00. This includes fabrics for sampling and other sundries relating to samples. Students undertaking the accreditation course must register with the AMUSF at a cost of £50 plus VAT. This will also provide additional benefits for students, including discounted fabrics.
