About the Course
This workshop is for the relaxing art of hand quilting, it is suitable for absolute beginners. Even if you have never threaded a needle in your life, you will leave the workshop with the start of a mini quilt, cushion or wall hanging and new sewing skills under your belt. We do not use a machine for any part of this workshop so your project can be finished at home with very little equipment.
We will be introducing you to the traditional patchwork technique of English paper piecing or EPP. English Paper Piecing is shaping fabric around a paper template and hand stitching the shapes together to create a quilt or wall-hanging. It is very relaxing, an easy method of patchwork and a lovely introduction to the world of quilting.
During the 3 hour workshops we will teach you the techniques & skills to create hexagons, how to cut and use paper pieces to make accurate shapes and how to glue or hand baste them together.
We will make 7 hexagons to hand sew together with a special stitch to make a lovely flower shape. We will show you how to edge and bind your work to make a mini wall hanging or cushion front.
This could be the start of a very addictive craft for you that can lead to an heirloom family quilt. It is an economical and fun way to use up fabric scraps and is super portable.
