About the Course
Explore, Respond, Create
Inspiration is all around us so when visiting a beautiful new environment it is always exciting to respond to it and use it as inspiration for designing and developing new work. Who knows where it will lead? This type of creativity is always an exciting proposition.
During the week you will be able to experiment with different techniques to produce your own unique textiles based on your response to the area. There will be many opportunities for eco dyeing including using various resist techniques, eco printing, mark making with thickened dyes and of course, stitch.
You will receive the equivalent of 3 full days tutoring, with a maximum of 6 pupils in a class. Sweet Nothings Arts and Craft Retreat is an old farmhouse set in two acres surrounded by wooded valleys, vineyards, orchards and plenty of French charm. The retreat is fully inclusive; you will be looked after with every need catered for by Nat and Lawrence. Fabulous food, comfortable accommodation, a swimming pool, two outings, airport transfers and great company – what’s not to love? The skills learnt during the week are easily transferable for when you get home, and what you make during your stay is designed to be easily transported in hand luggage. What’s more, machines and larger equipment is all provided for your convenience.
About the Tutor, Edwina Mackinnon.
Edwina loves anything and everything to do with textiles but especially stitch, by hand and machine, dyeing fabrics with indigo and Procion dyes and printing with whatever she fancies! She loves the results when exploring eco printing.
She has taught textile related subjects for almost 30 years, including City & Guilds courses. She now teaches her own courses and one off workshops wherever she is asked to go.
She enjoys being out and about, taking photographs and collecting new ideas. At home she loves to cook and is always trying out new recipes! She also enjoy pottering about in her garden and relaxing with a good book and says there’s always a knitting project to work on!
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
