Dynamic lino cut with Mary Dalton

Your tutor Mary Dalton

If you thought lino was just about making cards, then think again. In this two-day (consecutive) workshop you will delve into the experimental world of unique lino cuts - one off artworks whose techniques are energetic, spontaneous and fun.

We will be covering the basics of how to carve lino through to the complexities and wonders of hand printed effects. We will use cheese graters, hammers, scissors, sandpaper and much more to generate wonderfully expressive artworks.

Mary will work with you in small group tasks as well as developing your own language within this amazing medium. We will cover the basics of registration and the more formal approaches to linocut, but the main emphasis of the workshop is to bring out the unique expressive qualities of lino.

We will work in colour and monochrome. We are focusing on hand printing, so the techniques may all be applicable for continuing at home. We will be working with oil-based inks, so please be prepared with old clothes and reusable rubber gloves for cleaning. We will not be using any solvents.

Mary Dalton is the founder of the Washroom Pop-Up Press and the Washroom PrintShop. She is a professional artist and printmaker whose work spans across genres, pushing printmaking into the realm of sculpture, installation, textiles and performance.
