Description

This is a fun and unique workshop exploring the potential of creating your own handmade embellishments using a variety of processes and materials. Through experimenting with dyeing, painting and hand printed techniques - contemporary embroidery artist Jessica Grady will teach how how to turn waste and unconventional materials into beautiful and exciting embellishments to use within hand embroidery. The day will begin by hand dyeing a variety of synthetic and recycled materials such as waste nylon tubing, tile spacers and cable ties - along with other plastic or recycled materials. Jessica will show you how to create various effects with the dye to achieve interesting and exciting results. This will be followed by experimenting with painting a variety of metal embellishments using fabrics as stencils to achieve various patterns. Jessica will also show you how to use a selection of printing processes such as foil, flock and heat bonding recycled materials to create final effects on embellishments of your choice. The day can get a bit messy so please wear old clothes and bring along an apron! You also need to bring along your own packed lunch. You will leave the workshop with a large selection of dyed, painted and foiled embellishments to use in your own textile art projects. Jessica also runs a follow on course, "Contemporary embellishment through colour and pattern" which goes through techniques for attaching and using your embellishments to create exciting surfaces and patterns.

What's included in the price?

All materials and equipment is included. Free parking is also available at the venue . If you would like to experiment with dyeing or painting any additional bits and pieces that you have at home such as found materials, broken jewellery or any plastic packaging - please feel free to bring it along with you.
