Learn how to build a dry stone wall in this one-day introductory dry stone walling course. Dry stone walling is an ancient and beautiful rural skill. The main purpose of the course is to share with you the necessary knowledge and confidence to build a modest wall as a first project.
In this dry stone walling course you will:
- Learn about the principles of dry stone walling.
- Find out how the walls are built, from foundations to toppers and also learn about the history of the skill.
- Have plenty of hands-on experience to build a section of wall.
Jamie Alcock will be your tutor. He is a craftsman in Dry Stone Walling, having worked in some of the most prestigious gardens in the Cotswolds, as well as traditional field walling.
We hope you will enjoy the course and later on appreciate the quiet satisfaction that comes from building and repairing structures that will remain for many years to come.
If you would like to learn about dry stone walling in more depth, we can also offer a two day course.
What to expect?
Following a brief introduction and necessary safety related instructions, the rest of the course is ‘hands-on’ instruction - lifting and manual labour is involved.
You will work in a group with Jamie instructing the group, building foundations and then going on to build a section of dry stone wall.
