About the Course
Try a Driftwood Art & Coastal Foraging weekend. You will be staying in a lovely Georgian house overlooking the stunning Teifi estuary. A break with a difference! Wonderful weekends of creative 'taster' workshops in west Wales, all with a coastal theme.
All workshop tutors are well respected, experienced, local artists and crafts people. Groups are small, averaging 6 people, and you will receive individual attention and be helped to discover your unique creative self.
Jade Mellor has been a professional forager for over a decade, gathering wild food from the beautiful hedgerows, woodlands and coast of West Wales. She runs a small rural business, Wild Pickings, teaching others about the wild bounty of the area and making delicious seasonal foraged food and preserves. On the workshop we will start by exploring the estuary and beautiful habitats around Poppit sands. Focus will be on edible coastal plants: identifying them, sustainably collecting them, and discussing traditional and modern uses. We will use our foraged finds to make herb tea and garnish lunch, and then in the afternoon we will make a simple seasonal preserve: a wild herb salt or a foraged vinegar, a little bottle of the wild Welsh coast to take home and savour.
Driftwood Art. Britta Winkler is actively involved in many community projects, working with local enterprises and with the innovative Small World Theatre in Cardigan. 'My training in design craft and metal work, has infused me with a passion for seeing the story in an object. Let me guide you and help you to create your very own work of art. We will be working in a small group, and you will receive individual attention from the start through to your finished creation'.
