Conceived and led by artist & Draw tutor Jade Hylton, Drawversity is a life model class that focuses on introducing more black models and people of colour to the world of life modelling. During the session a new model will pose for the group, choosing their own pose lengths, guided and supported by Jade. These sessions are clothed, giving artists the opportunity to draw the clothed figure, or portrait, with the option of the model posing unclothed if they prefer. The session is open to all abilities & levels of experience and Jade will be on hand to offer any help you need.
Covid-safety
Here’s what we are doing to protect everybody at Draw:
- We keep the studio well ventilated and use a medical grade air purifying system to minimise aerosol spread
- Session numbers are strictly capped to allow plenty of space between people
- We keep the studio clean and provide free hand sanitiser
Our tutors & models are paid sick pay and won’t attend a session if unwell
Here’s what you can do to help protect vulnerable people and keep our sessions open:
- Use a lateral flow test before coming along
- Get fully vaccinated - it is quick, safe and easy
- Please don’t come to the session if you are unwell – you will always get a full refund
- Wear a facemask to protect other people at the session

Tuition & feedback
Even if you’ve never done any life drawing before you’re welcome to come along to this untutored session! If you’d like to learn some skills first, you might want to sign up to the online life drawing course on the Draw Patreon (available to all Life Drawing & Student tier supporters) or look out for upcoming tutored weekend courses. Whether you are a Patreon supporter or not, you can post your drawings on the Draw community Facebook group and you are welcome to tag us and use #drawbrighton on Instagram & Twitter!
Accessibility
If you have any accessibility needs, please do let us know - we’re keen to do everything we can to make sure you can enjoy the life classes here. The building has a wheelchair ramp at the North side of the New England Street entrance and lifts up to level 5.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
When you arrive at New England House you’ll need to come to the main doors next to the Building Managers Office on Level 3 and call the number on the door to be admitted - please note that you’ll need to wear a mask at all times in the corridors of New England House. Once you’re at the session you’ll need to show a digital or printed receipt as proof of booking, then you’re ready to go! We will take a short tea break half way through the session; drawing boards, chairs and easels will be provided and you'll need to bring your own drawing materials along.
