About the Course

The aims of the course are to enable learners to produce drawings with shading to create a 3D effect. It will establish how to look for the basic shapes and relationship lines in an object or photograph to start a drawing and add appropriate shading. It will enable learners to create a finished drawing using various techniques.

This 5 weeks course is ideal for students who are new to drawing or wish to develop their techniques. Drawing skills are the beginning of the creative process for pictures, but also for designs for clothing, cushions, bags, ceramics or greetings cards. These skills may also be used for other reasons such as supporting children with their studies (for example biology) and as a stress reducing occupation.

The course will include the following, but a flexible approach will be taken so that learners can progress at their own pace.

By the end of course students will be able to:

• Recognise the basic shapes in photographs and/or objects to enable the initial planning of a drawing.
• Create a line drawing by eye and using grids.
• Apply shading to establish the direction of a light source and create 3D illusion.
• Recognise and apply proportions and line relationships when creating a drawing larger or smaller than actual size.
• Apply colour to create depth and detail.
• Design and draw a pencil drawing of a subject of choice.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
