5th March 2019 – Don’t Think, Just Ink!

In this session, we will be exploring the creative process by filling in a grid of squares with different compositions in ink; using circles and curves, dots and dashes, lines and loops, squiggles and spirals, wrinkles and waves and all manner of marks on paper. Trying to create a unique composition for each square, we will then consider the rules and judgements that we made for ourselves, both during the process and afterwards. The session will include mindfulness meditation, enquiry and discussion. All materials are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own pens and the sketchbook from the taster workshop, if you have one.

12th March 2019 – Drawing Blindly!

In this session, we will explore another way to surrender to the creative process by using the technique of blind contour drawing. Here, we will focus only on the object of the drawing itself while “blindly” drawing its contour (outline) on paper without taking the pen/pencil from the paper, and without looking at the drawing! Within itself, this is a practice in being, a meditation, and an opportunity to “see” with fresh eyes. The session will include mindfulness meditation, enquiry and discussion. All materials are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own pens or pencils and the sketchbook already provided, if you have one.

19th March 2019 – Don’t Just Look, See!

In this session, we will use macro-photography to help us to see more than perhaps we usually notice. Slowing down and looking for the smallest details, both in nature and in ordinary objects, we will be taking close-up photographs to explore the beauty in the detail. The session will include mindfulness meditation, enquiry and discussion. A camera on your phone is ideal for this, but you are welcome to bring a digital camera if you prefer, and the sketchbook already provided, if you have one.

26th March 2019 – Impermanence!

In this final session, we will explore the creative process by considering the impermanence of the artistic form. Using inspiration from the traditions of “kolam” and “mandala”, we will begin by experimenting with some designs in our sketchbooks before creating an “impermanent” artwork using either rice powder/flour or sand. The session will include mindfulness meditation, enquiry and discussion. All materials are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own pens or pencils and the sketchbook already provided, if you have one.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

All materials provided including a sketchbook for each participant to take home. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.
