About the Course

Develop your drawing ability through practical exercises using a wide range of subjects including the life model, objects, landscape and a visit to a museum or gallery. For people with some experience of drawing, this course will help you find ways to draw that suit you, by examining a variety of approaches and artists’ work to instruct and inspire.

By the end of the course you will be able to
Choose from a wide range of drawing materials
Make quick sketches from direct observation
Measure the proportions of the human head or body
Draw using a variety of styles and approaches
Keep a sketchbook to evidence your range and progress
Class format and activities
This is a practical course and you will spend most of your time drawing. Your tutor will set different tasks for the class, as well as allowing you to develop a personal drawing style. There will be demonstrations and explanations of different subjects and approaches to drawing. Tuition is given to the whole class and on an individual basis. You will also be encouraged to take part in discussions of artists' work and to learn from each other's different ways of drawing.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

There are no formal entry requirements but students should have some experience of drawing, e.g. have already taken a beginners’ class.
