Discover exciting urban landscapes of London including the river, parks, buildings and streets. We will work outside to study form and perspective, composition, space and atmospheric elements. In subsequent weeks we will develop your studies and ideas back in the studio.
By the end of the course you will be able to
Identify the main forms and perspectives within the urban landscape
Use a sketchbook as a visual resource to develop images and ideas
Create a range of compositional studies identifying scale from different viewpoints
Learn how to select composition and abstract specific elements
Describe atmospheric use of colour and light by painting/ sketching outdoors
Experiment with materials, mark making, and textures
Class format and activities
On alternate weeks you will be sketching/ painting outdoors and then in the studio to develop your ideas. You will be encourages to develop your sketchbook work into larger paintings/ series of painting, using own choice materials such as mixed media, oils, acrylics, collage. Your tutor will help you with techniques.
Over the course we will study techniques of contemporary landscape artists.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
No previous experience is required although students must be able to speak in English. This course is suitable for both beginners and the more experienced.
