All of our woodwork and furniture making courses encompass the key principles of cabinet making and utilise Dan's extensive knowledge of his career in the luxury bespoke furniture industry. Regardless of your skill level or experience, the aim of every course is to leave you full of confidence when creating your own projects.
This course is for you: If you have existing woodworking experience, this course will teach you all you need to know to make perfect hand cut dovetail joints.
What is covered: The principles of dovetailing techniques and the skills needed to layout, mark and cut two types of dovetails by hand; "through" dovetails on day one, "lap" dovetails on day two, and independent practice of your new skills (with supervision) on day three. The course will cover;
Dovetail joints - types and selection
Preparation of materials
Setting / Laying out dovetails
Dovetail saws and sawing technique for tails and pins
Chiseling and pairing joints
Accurate assembly and glue up
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
We strongly encourage you to bring along your own tools if you have them, however all tools and equipment are provided for use on every course. Ear defenders and dust masks are available where required.
All Course days are run from 9am to 5pm.
Hot and cold drinks are provided, please bring your own packed lunch and snacks. Accommodation is not included, however there are many lovely places to stay locally around Denbigh.
Group sizes are deliberately kept small (2 to 4 people per course) so that each person gets the most out of their time with us. Open communication and questions are welcomed at all stages and time can be taken to focus on any areas that need strengthening without detracting from the course schedule.
