Double-faced knitting is a technique that enables the knitter to produce two layers of knitting in one piece. The technique can produce tubes, self-lined accessories and garments. The Workshop is suitable for beginners as long as they can knit and purl.
There are special two colour cast-ons to learn as well as edge stitches and reversing the designs in the colours chosen.
You will learn how to hold the wools and the working principles of hidden stranding.
During this first lesson of Double Faced Knitting for Starters, you will cover the following techniques, and take home full written instructions to continue experimenting.
The techniques you will learn are: reverse stocking stitch which interlocks your design together by reversing the colours on each side of the piece, therefore, giving a mirror image; self colouring edge; different cast-on methods; dual coloured work with differing designs on either side (ie spots & stripes); making pockets in garments and learning how to cast off and re-cast on for differing layers; reversed stocking stitch double-faced knitting when knitting Fair Isle designs with a backing layer.
You will then start a Fair Isle Double Faced Ski Band specially designed and charted for the class and yours to take home.
