About the Course
In this workshop we'll go through the full process of prepping furniture from filling, sanding and repairing, as needed, and then onto painting furniture with a contemporary smooth brush-stroke free finish as well as the techniques for creating modern designs, such as striking geometric patterns using masking tape, or decoupage if you prefer, and finally learn how to add finishes to protect your creation and fit new hardware, if required.
We'll share ideas and problem solve as we work together towards completing our various upcycling projects.
This is a hands on workshop and you will need to bring along a small piece of furniture to work on (I can help you with outlets to try if you don't have anything!) As a rule of thumb for size you should be able to carry the piece in one hand - if in any doubt email me using the contact form above to check.
You'll be working with Fusion Mineral Paint, a specialist furniture paint that gives a beautiful soft matt finish and is so lovely and easy to work with but is hard-wearing and requires no top coat. It is made from natural ingredients so is non-toxic, lead free, virtually odourless and has no volatile organic compounds (VOC) meaning it's kinder to the environment as well as us. You'll get a chance to use some of the 50 different colours as well as all of the amazing metallic paints in their range.
I'll take you through the different finish options including water-based top coats, oil and wax.
No experience is necessary and all abilities are welcome. Wearing clothes suitable for painting is a good idea or bring an apron. All other materials and tools will be supplied.
Refreshments will be available during the workshop and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get advice for your projects while you are painting too.
A relaxing area is available to eat a packed lunch during the day and take breaks.
There are places to eat and visit at Sunny Bank Mills if you want to make the most of your visit on the day. Please visit the Sunny Bank Mills website for more details.
