About the Course
This course offers intensive instruction on domestic knitting machines.
It'll introduce you to thinking creatively about using a machine at home or at work and how to exploit the equipment to produce new, innovative samples for fashion or interiors.
This course will focus on producing work with a contemporary design perspective.
You'll learn how designers are using trend forecasting resources to develop new concepts, which will help inform your project during the course.
The course is ideal for anyone who's interested in textiles and crafts and considering investing in (or making better use of) a domestic machine.
It's also very useful for fashion and textile technicians and tutors who are looking to enhance their skills, students or recent graduates who want to explore knit in more depth, and anyone considering applying for a knitwear or a textile-related degree course in the future.
During this course you will:
experiment with yarns and learn the basics of machine knitting
progress to more advanced stitches and techniques that'll enhance your knowledge of texture, colour and weight (such as Fair Isle patterning and partial knit)
critique your work and receive feedback to ensure your project and skills are developing
access our stores so that you can experiment with yarns that might be new to you.
What will you gain?
By the end of the course, you'll have created new machine-knitting ideas and produced a range of professional-looking samples or swatches for fashion and home projects.
