About the Course
This 2 day course will see you overcoming any fears you have of using coloured pencils & our chosen support of Pastelmat. You will follow one of Lisa’s in-depth tutorials to create a realistic portrait of either a cat or a dog.
Day 1: We will cover all of the basics of getting to know everything to do with coloured pencils. After some foundation exercises we will transfer our line drawing to our support & begin by learning how to create eyes before moving on to colour blocking our under layers.
Day 2: Learn how to build the many layers of pencil to create believable fur texture. Working on Pastelmat allows us to work from dark to light, back to dark & up to light again which goes against anything experienced pencil artists might have done before. Lastly, you'll learn how to use a knife to add even more texture to the overall piece.
Over the course of the 2 days Lisa will help you with the following:
To see the underlying colours in fur.
Inject character & life into your animal portraits.
To build, layer & blend with coloured pencils.
Gain confidence in rendering eyes, noses & of course fur texture.
How to work on Pastelmat.
Quite often the portrait may not be complete by the end of the 2 days as coloured pencils are known for being quite a slow medium but you will be provided with an in-depth digital tutorial to allow you to finish your piece at home.
The course is suitable for all abilities from absolute beginners to those more advanced.
A full materials list will be sent out prior to the course. Alternatively, a full materials pack can be ordered in advance for £25. This will include all pencils needed & also your Pastelmat support - if you only need to purchase the Pastelmat then just £3 will apply.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The artist will supply a full digital tutorial to allow you to continue to work on the piece at home.
Tea, Coffee, biscuits and cold refreshments will be available throughout the day. Lunch is not provided although The Phoenix Tea Rooms, just next door, provide an array of meals, light lunches and snacks.
