About the Course
Create stylish and useful containers with coiled basketry and stitched techniques. Use your previously dyed indigo cloth or recycled fabrics. Learn to design and make cloth storage boxes, bowls and baskets. Make lids, handles and enhance surfaces with stitch and applied decoration. .
By the end of the course you will be able to
Usethe ancient craft of coiled basketry to make lively contemporary and useful containers in a variety of rounded shapes.
Create subtle textures and decorated surfaces with variations of technique and materials.
Use your indigo resists from the previous course and recycle fabrics.
Choose to highlight surfaces with favourite scraps or simple large scale stitch.
Class format and activities
Work in a friendly and supportive studio with individual and group learning. Tutor's handling samples, artist and crafts images and handouts will inspire and support your work.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

What you need to know before you enrol
The studio is on the second floor of the Nancy Seear Building. Disabled access via lift and stair lift.
People with asthma need to be aware of airborne wool fibres.
What you will need for your class
An apron or overall will be useful for wet processes.
