About the Course
This course will introduce you to Wilcom software, combining technical know-how with design skills and creativity to produce unique digital embroidery samples.
It’s ideal for anyone with an interest in fashion or interiors, and can be useful for amateurs and professionals, as well as students, who are creating new work for a portfolio.
You’ll learn how to create a design in Wilcom, connecting all the stitches and minimising jumps.
You’ll then learn about the different stitch types for the base and top layers, how to alter stitch length and how to apply interfacing/stabilisers.
You will begin with simple, one-colour designs on calico, before moving on to colour.
As part of the course you’ll also look at artists and designers working with digital embroidery, for research and inspiration. A trip to the NTU library will help you identify key makers and trends.
On this course you will:
gain technical knowledge in digital embroidery software (Wilcom)
have the opportunity to experiment with techniques and materials
discuss and critique design work
progress from concepts to physical samples that will be stitched on the multi-head machine
have time for one-to-one sessions to aid your learning
organise your work in a portfolio.
What will I gain?
By the end of the course you’ll have a variety of samples of digital embroidery, and visuals of your scanned digital work in a portfolio format.
