About the Course
3 day art break at historic Flatford Mill, run by the Field Studies Council.
Have you ever wondered how to use your sketchbook to its maximum potential? How to gather and assemble information, how and what to draw in your sketchbook and how to develop layouts and designs from your sketches? This practical course is packed full with a series of short drawing and design exercises (including an outdoor drawing exercise each day, weather permitting) which you can go on to apply to other subjects, or use to develop daily drawing exercises. Suitable for everyone whether you are a painter, sketcher, crafter, printmaker or journal writer. Whether you already use a sketchbook, or you’re just a beginner. We will be using a sketchbook and simple drawing equipment such as pens and pencils.
Debora Cane is an enthusiastic art tutor with over 30 years’ experience. All of her courses concentrate on simple concepts and practical techniques and are suitable for everyone; no previous experience is required. Every session has planned content and takes varying approaches to help students build up their own techniques and style. Debora and draws and paints daily (mainly in pen & ink) and undertakes illustrations for small commissions.
Bring a friend! If you are attending a course at Flatford Mill at the sole occupancy price, we are offering a special rate for a friend or partner not enrolled on the course to also stay at £50 per night for dinner, bed and breakfast. Please get in touch directly to book this offer.
Flatford Mill lies at the heart of the Dedham Vale, on the banks of the River Stour near the Suffolk-Essex border. The Centre buildings, particularly the Mill and Willy Lott’s House, are instantly recognisable since they feature in many paintings by John Constable. The rich mosaic of lowland landscapes, wildlife habitats and places of historic interest are all reflected in our extensive programme of courses.
The Centre is located between Colchester and Ipswich and is about 10 miles from each, approximately 2 miles from the A12.
