One week smart textiles course.
This course will introduce you to the world of smart textiles and how to create the wearable products of the future.
You will learn about e-textile circuits and the different technologies currently available.
The course will support you in developing a potential future wearable product that could apply to fashion, healthcare, sportswear or lifestyle. You will be encouraged to produce prototypes and explore a variety of creative ways to communicate your concepts to the tutors and industry experts.
On the course you will:
learn about smart textiles and the wearable technology market
learn how to make e-textile circuits with a range of e-textile technology
identify products where smart textiles can be applied
visit e-textile product manufacturer Kitronik to hear about what is currently happening within the field of smart textiles
test your prototype and conduct user feedback studies
be part of a multi-disciplinary environment that includes designers and technologists
learn to reflect on the process of working with smart textiles, and consider ways in which to progress your ideas further
visit the Advanced Textiles Research labs at NTU to see their research.
What will you gain?
By the end of the course you will have a working prototype, a record of your concept development process and an understanding of the impact that working with smart technologies can have on design thinking, problem solving and decision making.
You will be able to design products that include wearable technology and identify the key stakeholders that are involved in the process.
