Design and publish a digital magazine: online - Morley College, London

Design and publish a digital magazine: online - Morley College, London

About the Course

Because of the huge growth of online content, magazines continue to flourish. The industry is booming with both business and consumer publications that cover everything from fashion to fishing to furnishings; and so much more.

This is helping to produce genuine opportunities for people with the skills and knowledge to work in the industry. This course will introduce you to the design theories and techniques that will help you to understand how to create exciting and well-planned layouts. Learn skills to save your work in PDF rich formatting, embed further content and optimise for display on the web. You will be taught through a series of lectures, workshops and exercises and will produce a cover design, masthead and a three-page layout that will give you a solid basis to explore the world of magazine layout further. The course will be taught using up-to-date industry software and demonstrate the workflow between Acrobat PDF, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to create layout designs.

Class format and activities
This course will be taught online using MS Teams. There are many advantages to learning in an online environment including the opportunity to use exciting tools for presentation and feedback. Classes may be recorded so you can return to them later. Gain instant support and answers to questions via forums, one to one tutor and peer support. Benefit from anytime access to an archive of course materials and resources to help you with projects and assignments. Get a generous discount on Adobe CC Software and a free Microsoft Office account with Email, MS Teams, Office Apps and much more!

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements
A keen interest in the subject is key to your success and the ability to attend the sessions regularly in order to get the most out of the course. As part of the course you will be asked to read material, take notes, listen to instructions and discuss related topics, therefore students should have a reasonable level of skill in speaking, reading and writing in English. It would be beneficial to your studies if you possess essential software for use at home.

What you need to know before you enrol
It would be helpful if you have some familiarity with Macintosh and/or PC computers and know how to use standard menus and commands, however this is not an essential requirement as these skills can be picked up during the course. As this is a course primarily delivered on computers; students will be encouraged to be aware of fatigue and eye strain and take breaks when necessary. Your tutor will therefore build in project assignments, reconvening as a group to share the progress of work. Information about computers and the relevant software will be provided by the tutor.

If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
