Interested in traditional rural skills? This hands-on course is for people who want to learn decorative lime techniques. You’ll gain practical experience of working with design, pigments and wet lime. Designs and all equipment will be provided.
Traditional rural skills like stone carving, dry stone walling, hedgelaying, coppicing, charcoaling, blacksmithing, horse-logging, spinning & weaving, lime mortar techniques and green woodworking are a precious part of the history of our landscape. Changes in land management practices over the past century have sadly resulted in many of these fascinating and practical skills disappearing. In partnership with Cotswold National Landscape, Hawkwood is offering some rural skills courses this summer.
Lime and pigments can stain, so please wear clothes and footwear you won’t mind getting dirty. The course is taught outside so please bring weather-appropriate clothing: warm clothing / layers, waterproofs, gloves, sturdy shoes/boots, hat, and sun cream.
All tools and equipment will be provided. Course begins at 10.00am and ends at 4.00pm each day.
Please get in touch for any further questions via the "chat with maker" button.
