Take inspiration from fruit, birds and the beautiful Hawkwood surroundings during a weekend of creative experimentation.
Explore different ways to loosen up your illustrations, and how to move away from the pressures that can stifle creativity. Discover real techniques for overcoming the fear of the blank page and experiment with a whole range of materials and unusual tools.
This weekend workshop will be full of practical ideas to enrich your drawings, taking inspiration from nature to create images that are full of energy, character and life.
In this Illustrating Nature workshop, artist-illustrator Laura McKendry explores the many ways the natural world can inspire our art. From painting directly from nature, to looking to our surroundings for unusual tools and ideas.
We’ll be drawing on the breathtaking surroundings of Hawkwood for our inspiration, looking at ways to create images of nature in playful and experimental ways. This is a weekend that gives time, space and inspiration to immerse yourself in the creative process. And develop a unique way of creating illustrations inspired by the natural world.
In her own work, Laura combines different materials including watercolour, ink, coloured pencil and less usual approaches such as sticks, teabags, hands and emulsion paint. She gives focused direction in her teaching, but also encourages students to make their own discoveries about different tools and materials without any fear about getting it ‘wrong’.
Laura is fascinated by the way we individually explore the process of creating – its joys, frustrations and everything in between. Her teaching is honest and accessible, and draws on her own experience of the creative process and how she weathers the trickier moments.
