About the Course
The Cyanotype photographic printing process was used in the 19th century by architects, engineers and scientists to copy drawings. It utilises the power of mixing ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide with sunlight to produce beautiful blue images. It is such a magical process and people are always really pleased and excited with their results. NB. the chemical is odourless and harmless when used under normal conditions.
Using the Cyanotype process, you will learn how to light-sensitise watercolour paper or fabric, place objects on top and then expose to light to create blue prints. It is an amazing and very satisfying process! You will get interesting results every time.
After some experimenting, (believe me, it is addictive!) I will show you how to construct either a lampshade (£58) or a table lantern (£35) from your own cyanotype design to take home with you. If you would rather just make some prints, that is fine too and will cost £25.
I have been teaching photography to students of all ages in both formal and workshop settings for over 20 years. A particular love of mine is the exploration of old traditional processes, such as silver gelatin printing and cyanotype printing in which you create your own light sensitive surfaces.
The cyanotype is such a fun and rewarding process and you don’t need any special skills or equipment...just a love of the colour blue! Another great thing is that you will be able to explore it further at home as you only need a minimum of materials plus some good UV light.
To arrange a Cyanotype printing / lampshade / lantern workshop, contact me to arrange a mutually acceptable time and location. This is a process that needs good UV light levels, so will take place from Spring through to Autumn.
I am happy to hold workshops for small groups of young people too (12-16yrs) and these would be £30 each for a group of six to make a lantern, or £20 each to make some A4 prints.
I hope to see you very soon.
PS. Are you looking for ideas for a creative hen party? If so, I would love to help you make some table lanterns for your wedding reception...or even a special lampshade as a present for the happy couple in their new home.
No previous skills required for my rewarding short workshops that include all materials. I keep my groups small (3-6 people) which means that you will receive lots of help if you need it.

Great fun and great results.
Angela explained the process well and this interesting workshop just flew by. Angela had prepared some photos for us in advance so we managed to do organic and photographic images. We came away with loads!
If you like active crafting and super results you’ll enjoy this workshop.

We were very lucky to have a bright day in September to do our Cyanotype workshop. Angela provided all the materials for our lampshades, we just had to provide the decoration. Everything was well organised and Angela was an excellent teacher - very patient and good fun. Lovely way to pass a morning with friends and you get a lovely, unique lampshade at the end of it.
