About the Course

Learn to prepare a light sensitive blueprint solution and how to apply it to different surfaces effectively including paper and fabric. Use Morley garden as a source of inspiration. Students develop and experiment with various techniques to make unique images using this historical process and learn to remove the blue colour from prints and make brown-toned images. The course also investigates current practice and artists using cyanotype or blueprinting.

By the end of the course you will be able to
Mix your own blueprint light sensitive solution with a recipe guide
Apply the blueprint light sensitive solution to paper or fabric
Develop imagery to blueprint using a variety of methods
Expose and fix a blueprint
Remove the blue colour from a blueprint
Tint a blueprint brown
Class format and activities
Teaching is both on a group and individual basis with technical and creative input. The tutor will give presentations, demonstrations and show samples of cyanotype and blueprinting on paper and fabric. Feedback from the tutor will be in a constructive and supportive way.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements
The course is suitable for beginners.

What you need to know before you enrol
The textile studio is on the top floor of the Nancy Sears building and we will also be using the college garden, a reasonable level of fitness is required.

What you will need for your class
Protective clothing - apron and gloves (some available)
Any objects (less than depth of a pound coin) with fine detail you wish to print with - feathers and lace tend to work well
Any inspiring images you'd like to use as a source for a design
Any natural fibres you may like to try printing on - cotton, linen - some is available to buy from the college
