About the Course

This course takes place at Ammonite Yarns, in Pontyclun, South Wales, several times a year.
What used to be a block 6-week course has now been split in two parts, bookable separately and taught independently. Each 3-week part costs £35.00/person, including refreshments. Yarns and hooks are provided for the first session only.
♦ Initial 3-week course for beginners: covers the basic stitches and techniques, mostly working straight, getting to know how NOT to lose or gain stitches, and ends with how to make a granny square.
♦ Follow-up/independent 3-week course for improvers: covers things like working in circles as well as more complex stitches and shapes.

NEW format also proposed: 2 x 3.5 hours, on Saturdays
♦ Session 1 focuses on discovering the basics of crochet, focusing on a simple and versatile stitch: the double, to learn how to work in rows, create textures and work in the round (amigurumi techniques).
♦ Session 2 is about expanding your skills with another common stitch, the treble, discovering how to increase & decrease to create wave patterns and mastering the granny square!
Cost: £35 per session, or only £60 for both. Includes a hook and some yarn (for you to keep) and refreshments.

All my courses for beginners also teach you how to read charts. They should enable you to tackle a variety of simple projects on your own.

Numbers are limited in order to give each student the best tuition possible, so booking is essential!
New dates will be announced soon.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Gaelle's Crochet for Beginners six week course was excellent. St the end of week one I made a patterned scarf!

Gaelle is very knowledgable, extremely affable and flexes her approach to meet varying standards and speeds of learning.

Her handouts are excellent and Inhavr a skill for life. I can't wait to go on the next course!

Gaelle advertised a one day "refresher" course which was just what I needed having taught myself to crochet many years ago and not quite sure what I was doing! It turned out that because someone had cancelled at the last minute, I was the only pupil. Gaelle kindly still ran the session which was brilliant. She is such a good teacher; very patient and answered all my questions. She gave handouts too which are very useful. I would thoroughly recommend her.

Gaelle is such a good tutor, everything is clearly explained(brilliant handouts) and if you do make a mistake she shows you where it went wrong and shows you so clearly how to correct it. Nothing is too daunting every new step appears so easy and before you know it you can do a variety of stitches, and can make squares, baskets and hats and you have the know how to branch out to other projects too.I have been totally inspired, tonight is the last lesson of the beginners course and I wish it wasn't the last, I have had such fun. I would definitely recommend this course to everyone.Just great!

Gaelle has a lovely reassuring teaching style that is motivating whilst giving feedback in order that you can progress through her lessons. Plenty of advice and one to one help. I am now using my new found skills to make squares that will eventually 'grow up' into a blanket. Easy to follow hand-outs for reference.
