On this 100% online course delivered via Zoom, you’ll develop the skills needed to effectively plan and write your own fiction.

It’s aimed at anyone interested in creative writing for fiction, whether you are a complete beginner, or if you are looking for a refresher.

There’ll be online lectures, group discussions and creative writing tasks, with feedback from both the tutor and your peers during the sessions.

It can be taken as a stand-alone course or it can be a great introduction if you’re thinking about taking more short courses in the future.

During the course you will:

- outline the key aspects and understand the fundamentals of writing fiction
- consider the shape of your story
- look at the power of the sentence
- practice writing more believable characters
- consider what is an ending
- take part in dynamic group discussions
- complete writing tasks from prompts
- gain feedback on your writing style.

What will I gain?

By the end of the course you’ll have built confidence in your writing skills and have some new ideas to pursue your writing further.

Entry requirement: No previous experience is necessary.

Tutor Profile: Gareth Watts has written for radio, published poetry, written short stories and reviews for Fiction Uncovered.

He is a regular columnist for LeftLion and is co-host of the LeftLion Football Podcast.

Gareth has a PHD in English Literature and his first novel, Werner Krauss, was published in 2017.

He is currently Head of Creative Arts at Gateway College.
