About the Course

Residential course / workshops / retreat for groups of writers, staying in a lovely Georgian house with stunning views on the banks of the Teifi estuary in west Wales. The house is yours, we come in and host during the day leaving you to relax in the evenings.
All breaks are 'mix and match' and can include other creative workshops that we offer, including painting, driftwood art, jewellery making, and coastal foraging. See our other courses here and on our website for further details.

Wild Poetry.
In these workshops you'll be encouraged to walk, explore and respond, through the writing of poetry, to the inspiring local coastal landscape as well as to any wildlife you encounter. You'll also spend time indoors writing in response to prompts that Susan will provide and receiving helpful feedback.
Susan Richardson is a poet, performer, educator and editor, whose fourth poetry collection, Words the Turtle Taught Me, was published in 2018 by Cinnamon Press. She is currently poet-in-residence with both the Marine Conservation Society and the global animal welfare initiative, World Animal Day. Susan has performed her work at festivals throughout the UK, on BBC 2, Radio 4 and at Universities both nationally and internationally. She co-edits Zoomorphic digital literary magazine.

Where the Land meets the Sea.
In these workshops, we will take inspiration from our estuary coastline. Working both indoors and outside, using prompts and writing exercises, we will explore the coast as an ever-changing backdrop of beginnings and departures. A place of fluidity, contrast and motion where memories are formed and landscapes are shaped by the unfathomable pull of the sea.
Kittie Belltree’s poems have been published in a range of print and online journals including The North, The New Welsh Review, Under the Radar, Brittle Star, Obsessed with Pipework and Poetry Wales. A selection of her poems was shortlisted for the Venture Award 2016, while individual poems have been highly commended in several competitions; including The Penfro Book Festival Competitions 2015, 2016; The Camden and Lumen Competition 2016 and The Welsh International Poetry Competition 2017. In 2016, she was awarded a Literature Wales Writers Bursary to develop her first full collection. She also writes prose under a pen name and has just completed her first novel; a comedy romance set in Pembrokeshire. Her short fiction has also been highly commended and was anthologised in the collection, Cut on the Bias, (Honno, 2010.) Kittie has tutored in numerous community settings, from groups of home-educated teenagers to people with dementia. She works as a Specialist Study Skills Tutor at Aberystwyth University, where she also teaches on the undergraduate creative writing programme and is completing her PhD.
