About the Course
This two-day workshop is ideal for those who would like to improve their photography skills and capture the essence of autumn at Sculpture by the Lakes. Time will be spent photographing in the gardens and around the lakes, learning and practicing the art of producing well-composed atmospheric images. You will learn how to make the most of the mellow light to enrich vistas, plant portraits and abstract details and textures. We will take a closer look at the rich red, orange, yellow and brown tones of the landscape, trees, falling leaves, hips and haws and the emerging winter outlines. The focus of the course is about composition, lighting and getting it right in camera rather than post image manipulation. It is suitable for those with a digital SLR or an advanced compact camera.
An award-winning photographer, Jacqui Hurst has been passionate about taking pictures all her life. After studying photography and graphics at Gloucester College of Art & Design, she then further honed her skills as a photographer’s assistant in London then as an editorial photographer in the late 80s, working for magazines and book publishers specialising in applied arts, food, gardens and plants. In 2003 Jacqui was awarded the Garden Media Guild’s ‘Photographers’ Choice Award. She continues to work on books teaming up with sculptors and ceramicists to document their pieces, as well as teaching garden photography courses at West Dean College in Sussex.
