About the Course

It’s tough to begin a creative project and staring at a blank page doesn’t make it any easier. This Creative Inspiration Day has been designed to give you some different points to jump off from and explore shape, colour and pattern. We will use block-printmaking techniques to bring some of these ideas to life, but if you are coming at this from a different creative process, feel free to deviate and use your own preferred mediums to explore the topic and share these with the group.

Taking our inspiration from our Springtime surroundings, you will take part in a range of activities to develop your designs. We begin with some drawing exercises to loosen you up and to start creating a catalogue of ideas, and then move on to explore colour and shape. The afternoon is spent bringing these together in print.

You will leave with … a sketchbook full of ideas, including sketches and colour wheels, printed sheets that explore pattern and foam stamps that you can continue printing with at home.

Who is this workshop for? Creative dabblers, artists, printmakers, those new to the process and those with a little experience. The techniques covered are simple and so you do not need a background in printmaking to take part. If you are at the beginning of a course or project, this workshop can help you get started. This workshop is much more about design and idea generation than technical processes.

Important details: Group size is limited to 6 people, to give you plenty of room to work in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The workshop will begin at 09:30, so please arrive five minutes beforehand for a cup of tea or coffee and introductions. The workshop will finish between 15:30 and 16:00, depending on the speed at which you work. Please bring a packed lunch (the nearest shop is a five-minute drive away).

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

All printmaking tools, equipment and materials will be provided. Please bring along your sketchbook, basic drawing materials and any special reference material that you would like to work from, including fabrics, postcards, photographs and interesting objects to share with the group. Further information about what to bring will be sent out before the course. Tea, coffee and a slice of homemade cake will be available throughout the day.

Gorgeous space. Ruth is great fun and knowledgeable, but also friendly and approachable. This one is a little different than some of the other classes, but still enjoyable and a good foundation for future classes. Friday mornings work for me, so I hope to make a term of it. Recipe for the flapjacks please!

What a beautiful day! Lovely surroundings, pleasant people - just the thing I needed to kick start my projects. I've got a sketchbook full of ideas, colour and drawings and lots of ideas I'm going to rework at home. I will be booking onto the fabric printing next month to make some of these ideas come true!

Wonderful venue, tasty refreshments, great facilities. I really enjoyed learning to screen print, have been wanting to learn for a long time. I'm excited to buy my own supplies & keep printing at home - thank you!

Printed a tote bag for Christmas, fun workshop & really pleased with my design. Yummy rocky road cake too!

I came with three friends to this course, Slamseys is in a beautiful location on a farm, the barn is a really enjoyable place to be. Ruth was friendly and helpful throughout the session - no question was too silly to ask! Really pleased with my bags, can't wait to come again soon!

I took my wife of 26 years to this - it was a wonderful day that brought us closer together. My printing experience had been limited to the office photocopier to date so this course really opened my eyes to the versatilities of the form. The venue and facilities were excellent and I really enjoyed the cheese sandwiches. Tutor Ruth was very approachable and had a great sense of humour. Would recommend.

Did one of these courses over the summer and it was totes amazing.

Ruth was on hand through the whole thing to help me with the design and any questions I had about the process. At end of the course I had a great gift for my friend's birthday.

Really fun too.

Really enjoyed the printmaking workshop at Slamseys, fabulous venue, delicious refresments and helpful and warm tutor. The small group size meant there was lots of help at hand throughout the workshop.
