I am a professional artist and teacher who loves nothing more than travelling and collecting in my sketchbooks. I have taught 1000's of people on workshops, art holidays and in the classroom. I truly enjoy sharing the sketchbook techniques that I have learnt through the years, which have developed from my own collage paintings and observation drawing.
In this course I will share with you these techniques using drawing and collage in concertina sketchbooks. In each lesson I will introduce new materials and you will build on the techniques learnt in the previous lesson. I want to give you the tools and confidence to develop your books in a loose, creative collage way. For this course we will work on the theme of buildings, but you can apply these techniques in an open ended way to any subject.
The course is divided into six lessons and is suitable for beginners and those who are experienced artists who want to learn new techniques.
Are you feeling stuck?...Not even opened your lovely new sketchbook and don't know where to start on those pristine white pages? Wanting to add more interest than just a drawing? Desperate to loosen up but don't know where to start? Too busy to attend classes and cannot find a suitable sketchbook class? Happy to work around your own commitments?
Ready to fall in love with the concertina book that enables continuous 'drawing' - page after page of changing scenes? Then this is the course for you.
There is also a closed Facebook group where you can share your work with other participants as well as myself.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Karen’s course is so easy to follow, fun to watch and inspiring to actually do....You’re not just going to watch the video lessons, you just can’t wait to get started!
I liked the mix of materials, some familiar, and some to me totally new, and lots of new techniques to really free up your art.
I also like the course being self-paced: it is there for as long as one wants it.
Great value, and an inspiring enthusiastic tutor. Many thanks, Karen.
Now I’m starting the next course, Concertina 2, on the theme of Gardens and Allotments and know I’m going to love it !
I've been drawing and painting all my life and had reached stagnation. I knew I wanted passionately to draw again but could not defeat the endless reasons I invented to prevent myself actually doing so. Then a friend emailed me to say had I seen Karen Stamper's work and recommended her one-day course . The course was wonderful, I felt liberated - euphoric even!
Then came the online course which I also love, covering as it does, everything taught on Karen's one day course; it's down to earth, well organised and everything is explained in the nicest possible way. I have worked through this course several times and find new things to try each time. As an ex-art teacher I can see that her course is equally perfect for beginners as well as for those more experienced needing a visual shot in the arm. It's a great confidence booster, giving a basic structure on which the individual can build - and an absolute treasure to have.
Response from Karen Stamper:Thank you for your kind words Maggie. I have loved seeing your work, and getting to know you. :)
I can highly recommend Karen Stamper’s wonderful course. Techniques I would never have thought of on my own, have revitalised my work.
Response from Karen Stamper:Thank you John, your sketchbooks are always a delight to see, you put so much into them x
