Learn how to combine many different materials to make collages. This is a perfect medium for expressing humour or satire, so you will be encouraged to experiment and find your own approach to this very easy, approachable and immediate way of working.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
This is a practical class and you will spend most of your class time working at home. Your tutor will send you project brief with images and guidance on materials by email ahead of the session with options for 1:1 tutorial support and feedback.
On the day the class will use Zoom or Teams for group instruction, short lectures on artists' work and group discussions. You will start by looking at artists who use collage in their work, from Picasso to John Stezeker. We will discuss how they achieve various effects, and then will try making a first collage directed by Ruth, the tutor. These will be looked at, and new ways to make collages will be introduced. Materials to choose from will be examined and explained. Methods of applying the different materials will be demonstrated. You will then be free to work alone to develop a work - or series of works, supported by Ruth and the group as a whole.
Although there are limitations when working from home, there is an opportunity here to meet others on line and to investigate ideas away from the college studio. It might be that your work could (in part) reflect elements from this challenging time and might provide the basis for work to be developed further in the future.
