About the Course
As recommended in Ideal Homes Magazine...
Our informative and inspiring workshops make the perfect day out. With expert tuition, quality materials and stunning venues, when you book a workshop with us you’re guaranteed a day to remember.
Whether you’re ultra creative or a total beginner, expert tutor, Jo Thompson will guide you through a variety of gift wrapping techniques ...yes, even those really awkward shapes and hard to do bows! She'll also share with you her wealth of experience, from what materials to use, to some rather clever ‘tricks of the trade’.
Our workshops are designed to work to the seasons too, so whether you join us for a Spring or Christmas workshop you'll learn the same fabulous techniques but will enjoy working with colours and decorative touches relating to that particular season.
And most importantly, you'll learn hands on! Our small groups are designed to ensure all our students can learn with confidence in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, taking home the skills to put into practice time and again.
Once you’ve been on one of our courses, wrapping your presents will never be the same again.
Book on your own or with friends.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
We offer complimentary refreshments on arrival at all our venues and we have a short break during the course for a delicious lunch of sandwiches and cream tea. (Everything stops for tea doesn't it?...Even gift wrapping!)
All materials, expert tuition and some items to take home with you are also included in this workshop.
Super day at Wortley Hall, Jo was very informative and her demos were very good and easy to follow giving 1:1 support if required. I must admit I arrived feeling a little sceptical and I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the day learning new wrapping skills. Breakfast and afternoon tea was lovely too. Thoroughly enjoyed the day with a group of lovely ladies.

What a lovely little workshop with Jo, learning new wrapping tips and tricks. Enjoyed the day with my mother-in-law on December 1st in a small group - total of 7. The afternoon tea provided was very yummy! We learned our new skills by wrapping empty brown boxes, so I would suggest bringing a few small things you can add to them, just so you have some presents to add under the tree when you get home.
Just for those curious on what we learnt:
- Wrapped a wine bottle, so suggest bringing your own
- Wrapped a circular tin - this was just on a practice one, so you could always bring something like a Celebrations Tub if you wanted to give as a gift
- Made a bow from florist ribbon
- Added pleats to our gift wrapping
- Used rosemary and pinecone for decoration
- Learned how to properly wrap without wasting so much paper (and no Scotch tape used!)
- Learned how to make a small gift bag (with tips on how to make one at any size)
Thanks Jo, you were a great teacher!

Response from More Pretty Things:Thank you Stephanie, that's so kind of you! We loved having you on the workshop with us and glad you enjoyed it. Other than bringing a bottle (which is totally optional as we supply a substitute), we don't ask students to bring anything else, partly because some students will remember, some won't so we'd rather supply everything then we know everyone learns the same thing on the day and doesn't feel left out. But also we do this to ensure we can keep to the structure and timings of the workshop. We wouldn't be able to teach everyone the necessary skills on the day if we were getting to grips with various items brought in on top of what we already teach but thank you for taking time to feedback and we hope to see you on another of our workshops soon. Best regards, Jo Thompson
Really lovely day. Jo could not have been more welcoming, helpful and patient. Her enthusiasm and passion for beautifully wrapped gifts is infectious. My gift wrapping normally looks very thrown together so I loved learning some tips and techniques to make them look gorgeous! Lovely venue and a really relaxed, enjoyable day. A real treat! Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful course. Taught me how pleasurable gift wrapping can be, and I have already put it into practise with my Christmas presents. Jo was patient and very encouraging which helped me to be proud of the work I had done. Will definitely book on another course to advance the skills I have so far learnt. Would recommend this course to everyone.

Today I attended the More Pretty Things 'creative gift-wrapping course' with 2 friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed the event.
Jo was very warm and welcoming and her expertise and teaching skills are second to none.
The hotel was set in beautiful grounds and the food was excellent.
I would definitely recommend this course.

Attended this creative gift wrapping course with More Pretty Things today and I am still buzzing. Everything was spot on - the venue was idyllic and the food was fantastic. However, my ability to gift wrap is amazing - it's a good job it's Christmas. Jo is incredible. Her skills are second to none, her patience is unlimited and her tutoring is excellent as she was able to manage a group of people with different abilities and increased all their skills. The confidence she inspires is rewarding.
I would definitely recommend this course to anyone and can't wait to attend the next one - after I've practised over Christmas.
Thank you very much.

I am soon to take part in another course - the first was excellent so had to enrol on a second. Jo is a superb instructor and the quality of the materials were also excellent. I cannot wait to join her again in Ripon.

Jo's courses are wonderful and relaxing, a love treat. Highly recommended.

I have been on two of Jo's courses, the beginners and advanced one. ( We called it advanced, Jo said it was another wrapping course, but we preferred the idea of being advanced wrappers). Both were very relaxed, friendly but professional at the same time.
She advised us of potential pitfalls of the items we were wrapping and gently guided and advised us through the day.
I returned home with presents that wowed my family, who now demand help with gift wrapping for special occasions. I would have never been able to do this without the help of Jo.
I have recommended these courses to all my family and friends, who have thoroughly enjoyed the occasion themselves.
Jill Lofthouse - - #4214
Jo who provides this course is just the most lovely, patient tutor and obviously totally comfortable and skilled in the gift-wrapping arena. She was a wonderful hostess which added to the ambience of the occasion, enabling all those attending to be relaxed and simply enjoy the experience.
My friend and I returned home with three beautifully gift-wrapped items, which would not have looked at all aesthetically pleasing, without Jo's guidance. In just a few hours we learnt new skills that will benefit us for years to come!
I would totally recommend this course to anyone.
