About the Course
Offering an experimental approach to basketry, this course provides opportunities exploring a variety of different weaving techniques and materials. It focuses on developing self-expression through the creation of functional objects or sculptural forms, considering colour, texture, pattern and surface decoration.
This course offers a creative, experimental approach to contemporary basketry through the exploration of different weaving techniques such as coiling, check-weave, twining and random weave, in order to create unique functional containers or sculptural forms. A variety of organic, processed and recycled materials (not including willow) will be available, enabling students to design with colour, pattern, texture and surface decoration. The tutor will provide inspirational imagery, books and samples of creative, contemporary basketry to stimulate openness to new ideas. Beginners are welcome, no previous experience is necessary, however those who are experienced, are encouraged to develop skill and creative expression further.
