This course offers a creative approach to making woven lampshades using contemporary basketry techniques such as stake and strand or random weave. A variety of organic, processed and recycled materials (not including willow) will be available, enabling students to design with colour, pattern, texture and surface decoration. The tutor will provide inspirational imagery, books and samples of creative, contemporary basketry lampshade forms to stimulate openness to new ideas. Beginners are welcome, no previous experience is necessary, however those who are experienced are encouraged to develop skill and creative expression further.
Refunds are not available on this booking. Start dates may be amended on request.
This is a practical class. Learning will involve: examining samples and images to appreciate different basketry techniques and methods of construction; following verbal and written instructions and diagrams; watching tutor demonstrations; and making your own basketry structures. There will be an emphasis on experimentation to create individual designs and sharing ideas and previous experience with others.
