About the Course

This course will allow you to become more ambitious with your watercolours by revealing advanced techniques used by professional artists.

You will start with a recap of some of the most fundamental watercolour techniques - the important aspects of The Wash, The Wet-in-Wet phase and Dry Brushwork. You shall then examine painting with the light and against the light to achieve magical Mood and Atmosphere. Alongside this, you will identify Focal Points necessary for impactful composition and enhance it by using tonal values and Warm versus Cool colours to give maximum impact.

By the end of the course, participants will have produced a minimum of 2 complete paintings. You will have developed an understanding of how to treat foreground, middle ground and background, the correct pigment to water ratio to create all important lost and found edges and how to plan and create more atmospheric paintings.

George Boyter studied Drawing and Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, and thereafter he embarked on an award-winning career as a creative director in advertising in London. Now a full time artist and tutor, he specializes in watercolour landscapes, life drawing, portraits and oils.
