About the Course
One day poetry course in Nottingham with Clare Fisher.
Characters form the basis of great fiction.
But where do they come from and how do you create them?
Whether you’re an experienced fiction writer or just starting out, this workshop will give you the tools to create and develop characters that convince.
On this course you will:
- experiment with different ways of creating characters through creative writing exercises
- analyse and discuss short extracts which demonstrate different approaches to character creation
- learn how to use a character as a basis of a plot in short fiction and novels
- explore the role of dialogue and detailed description in creating characters
- gain the chance to read your work aloud (if you wish) and receive constructive critical feedback from the tutor.
The workshop is suitable for both new writers looking to stimulate ideas and more experienced writers who are in need of new insights and approaches to their practice.
What will I gain?
By the end of the session you’ll have the knowledge, skills and insights to create convincing characters in your own fiction, and be inspired to use these characters as the basis of engaging plots.
You will also have written several short pieces of fiction which you’ll be able to develop going forward.
